A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, November 27, 2023, at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Cartwright officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6 – 8 PM, Sunday, November 26, 2023. Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Frederick (Fred) was born on June 14, 1940, in Connellsville, Pennsylvania to Frederick Sr. and Dorothy Cartwright. He married Jessie Jeanette Strickland on June 5, 1960, in Crestview, Florida. He retired as Chief Master Sergeant with the United States Air Force after serving 27 years and was a long-term resident of Wichita Falls. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he worked for the State of Texas as a Food Stamp Eligibility Specialist and retired from the State after 14 years. He loved jazz music, was a collector of Lionel trains, and enjoyed travelling. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force on December 2, 1958. During his 27 years of service, he received many awards. Those awards included Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with six oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, Humanitarian Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with five oak leaf clusters, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster.
Survivors include children: Janet Hohertz and husband Larry of Seguin, Julia Sutton of Wichita Falls, Terry Cartwright of Grand Prairie, Ruth Brooks and husband Eric of Grand Prairie, and Lee Mooney and husband Kevin of Midlothian; brother John Cartwright and wife Thelma of Norwood, Pennsylvania; sister Cheryl Doyle of West Grove, Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Sherry Cartwright of Sahuarita, Arizona; grandchildren: Joseph and wife Amanda Petrosian, Eric and wife Penny Petrosian, Lacey Petrosian, Emma and Carly Sutton, Allie Cartwright, Tyler, Connor, and Madison Brooks, and Garrett and Gracen Mooney; great-grandchildren: Ainsley Biggs, Brynlee and Makenna Petrosian; and Spencer and Lincoln Petrosian and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Jessie Jeanette, his parents Dorothy and Frederick Cartwright Sr, his bother Richard Cartwright, and his brother-in-law, John Doyle, Sr (Jack).
