.Dorothy Godwin Eck, 87, of Wichita Falls went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 22, 2010 after a brief battle with brain cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Larry Shields of Faith Baptist Church officiating.Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7:00 untill 8:00 Friday evening at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born February 18, 1923 in Waco, Texas to Walter and Louella Talley. She lived a life of adventure living in Massachusetts, New Mexico, North Carolina and Alabama before returning home to Texas. After coming back to Texas, Dorothy was a stay-at-home mother for several years. She then went to work for the American Red Cross and later the City of Wichita Falls where she worked until her retirement in 1991.
Dorothy loved to travel. She was always proud to say she had visited every state in the
U.S. including Hawaii and Alaska. She was also fortunate enough to travel to Mexico, Canada and England.
Dorothy’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She is survived by three sons; Larry Godwin and wife, Jackie of Kamay, Rick Godwin of Austin, Wade Stoker and wife, Debbie of Wichita Falls, and one daughter, Cheri Hohfeld and husband, Gerald of Wichita Falls. She was proud to be called Mema by nine grandchildren; Eric Godwin and wife, Trisha of Godley, Tx., Kyler Godwin of Houston, Tara McKnight and husband, Jeff of Wichita Falls, Ashlea and Hunter Godwin of Austin, Jennifer Logan, Sara Stoker, Brooke and Brandon Hohfeld all of Wichita Falls; four great-grandchildren, Sam and Katherine Godwin of Godley and Emma and Ella McKnight of Wichita Falls. Dorothy is also survived by her husband, Leonard Eck of Fairview, Ok., sister, Frances Adams and husband, Billy of Frisco, Tx., and her brother, Bob Talley and wife, Peggy of Waco. Finally, she is survived by her “other daughter”, Staci Stampfli of Wichita Falls, her “other grandson”, Ganesh Vijayaraghavan of Houston; special friends, Judy Simmons and Lois McCulley of Wichita Falls and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Bettye Carter.
