Delois was raised in Calvert with her loving Grandma Mat (Mattie Jones). She resided there until she decided to make a move. She first tried Houston but decided to relocate to the big city of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Delois met the great Ira E. Mergerson and they were united in holy matrimony on May 25, 1963. Through their union, they were blessed with 3 children, 3 god-children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Delois was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her love for her family was endless.
Delois was a devoted member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. She joined soon after relocating to Wichita Falls. Over the years, she served in many capacities including: Deaconess, Kitchen Committee, Youth Sponsor, Mission 1 and Usher Board.
Delois was known for being able to cook anything. She loved to prepare Sunday dinners and if you ever came to her home, you were sure to leave full and with a to-go plate. She truly loved her family. She enjoyed times and laughs with her siblings, cousins that were just like siblings, and her nieces and nephews. Delois would get so excited to get to Calvert for any occasion but especially for the Jones Family Reunion.
In her golden years, she started working for Hampton Vaughan, which became a time of joy in her life.
She enjoyed the work and made lasting friendships.
Delois gained her wings on May 14, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ira Mergerson; son, Danny Mergerson; mother, Ruth Pickings; sister, Maxine Young; and brothers, Lawrence Jones, Frank Earl, Don Wayne Johnson, Ray Ray Pickings, Curtis Pickings, McKinney Pickings Jr, Richard Pickings
Those left to cherish her memory: daughters, Obra Mergerson and Iris Mergerson (Sweet), grandchildren, Kamesha and Nick Yates, Danrick McGee, DeWhitnee Mergerson, Mikal Penn, and Jazmin Mergerson; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn Yates, Kameron Yates, Myzel Penn, and Tyler Mergerson
Special Daughter/Niece, Debbie Jones God-Children, Freddie Johnson Jr, Eboni Waldon, Rodney Washington Brothers, Roy Jones, Walker Pickings, Anthony Pickings and sister, Maree Williams and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
