De Cottrell, 87, passed away November 1, 2022. De was born in Burkburnett Texas to Cliff and Edith Winkles on August 28, 1935. In 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Jake Cottrell in Holliday Texas.
De was a woman of great faith and spent her life in the service of the Lord. She leaves behind the hearts that she poured her love into. She was a member for many years of the First Baptist Church Holiday where she taught Sunday School, was a member of WOM, sang in the choir, and worked every year with vacation bible school.
De graduated from Holliday High School and Midwestern State University. She received her master’s in education from TWU. De was an educator for 33 years as a teacher and librarian, finishing her career as librarian at Holliday High School. After retirement De was an active member and officer of the Texas Retired Teachers Association.
De is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jake Cottrell, brothers-in-law, Steve Stevens and Leon Addison, all of Holliday and a sister-in-law Wylia Holt of Ft. Worth.
De is survived by her sister, Delores Stevens, sister-in-law Geraldine Addison, brother-in-law, Bill Holt, a son Rod Cottrell and his wife Becky, a daughter Carla Mankins and her husband Joel. Six grandchildren, Jake Cottrell, Jerod Mankins, Allison Cottrell, Derek Mankins, Trent Cottrell, and Andrea Hand. Other survivors include six great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, and many friends.
The family would like to thank The Gables at Rolling Meadows, Healing Hands, Visiting Angels, and Hospice of Wichita Falls for the loving care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church Holliday or Hospice of Wichita Falls.
A visitation for De will be held Friday, November 4, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Highway, Wichita Falls, Texas. A funeral service will occur Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church, 403 S College Ave, Holliday, TX.
