A Memorial Services will be held Wednesday June 19, 2024 at 2 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home Chapel.
Dave was born March 21, 1944 in Vienna, IL to Thomas Elmer and Opal Marie (Shoemaker) Newton. Dave was one of 11 children. He was a member of Lakeside Nazarene Church in Wichita Falls, TX.
In the 60’s Dave was a member of a gospel group called The Kings Onvoys, starting his singing career. In the mid 70’s he formed his own group called The Happy Day Express where he and his family would put on concerts for many churches and events. They also had a radio program that would broadcast in their local town on Sunday afternoon. Throughout the rest of his life Dave continued to help his church with Christmas Music, children’s programs, and filled in for the worship minister when he was out. Music was his passion.
In 1989 Dave moved from Illinois to Texas where he started Wichita Falls Embalming Service. For many years Dave served the many funeral homes in Wichita and the surrounding until his struggles with dementia. He enjoyed helping others to learn the trade.
If Dave had any free time he enjoyed fishing and gardening as well as playing many musical instruments.
Survivors include, his daughters, Trina Ford and Carmen Devore and husband Don; grandchildren, Kenneth, Kiefer, and Karen Devore; siblings, Joy Newton, Thomas Newton, Jean Newton, Susan Newton, Ronald Newton, and Gayla Newton.
Preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Clifton Newton, Harry Newton, Anita Wright, and Sharon Thomas.
