He was born on November 12, 1952 in Festus, Missouri, the son of Earnest Hayden Lancaster and Helen Cora Covington. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1971-1975 and became a Medic. He served at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, and Kadena and Naha AFBs in Okinawa. David married the love of his life Anita Hernandez on December 16, 1972 in Wichita Falls. After his Air Force service was completed, he attended Midwestern State University, where he studied history. In 1983, David began work at Howmet Aerospace as a Metal Cell Operator, and continued for 34 years until his retirement on November 1, 2018.
David enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Anita. They took many trips and cruises to places including St. Petersburg, Russia; Paris, France; Athens, Greece; and the Panama Canal. He planned all the details of every trip so they could experience everything the destination had to offer, and documented the trips with pictures and video. After they returned, he created beautiful documentaries set to music for each trip, so they could be enjoyed by others as well. David set the bar very high for other husbands, as his love for Anita always resulted in wonderful and thoughtful gifts for her on every occasion, staying in beautiful hotels or enjoying the best meals together. You cannot think of David without Anita; they were partners for life.
David also enjoyed working on his genealogy, which he shared with his sister Linda. He hoped that he could trace their lineage back to English royalty with a castle, but he never quite made the connection. David also loved to tell stories and jokes and tease people to make them laugh. He also loved to argue politics with anyone who would listen. David was also very serious about his faith in the Lord Jesus, and was baptized at Faith Baptist Church later in his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ernest Dale Lancaster. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Anita Lancaster and his sister Linda (Rod) Sayler and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the choir of Faith Baptist Church of Wichita Falls.
A celebration of life for David will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Funeral Home, 1917 Archer City Highway, Wichita Falls, Texas 76302.
