My deepest sorrows and sympathies for the family.

I cannot believe the world is without Mr. Alsup. He was one of the first teachers I met upon moving to Holliday, and wholey changed my life. In a new school, surrounded by new people, I planned on quitting band. Forced to try for a week, Mr Alsup was a major reason I chose to stick with it. I found passion, I found community, and I found a place to express myself. Because of Mr. Alsup.

It's not often as a kid you get to see the grown-ups around you being anything other than adulty and boring. But whether in the pit, or on the HS roof, or conducting, or writing and blocking our shows... I got to see someone who cared about his craft and the people he worked with. To be so passionate about something you love - music - that you would endure 5th graders screaching on their recorders for the chance to direct a marching band in state. To be so passionate that you jump up and down celebrating when you get goosebumps from a piece coming together. To be so passionate that he would host shows outside of the school to pass his passion on. That was Mr. Alsup. 

He showed so many students how to emote and experience joy in life. He taught us music, discipline, and hard work. My life is better because of him and I cannot thank him enough for what he gave me in life. I cannot imagine how many more students and loved ones he affected the same way.

Thank you Mr. Alsup. I'll always remember you. I'll miss you.

RIP Mr. Alsup, you were such a great person and band teacher.

Mr. Alsup always had a joke ready and a pat on the shoulder. Some may think that’s not a big deal, but there were many days that little gesture helped me get through the day at school. I remember my senior year, when I had to work late nights to help my family out, he was always so understanding when I had to do homework in between sets, so that I didn’t fall behind in my other classes. He reminded me of my own father, and was a great man! It broke my heart to hear of his passing, but I know that he has left behind such an amazing legacy, in his contributions to music world and in the hearts of all those he touched.  My thoughts are with his family in this time of grief.

Some of my favorite band memories are because of Mr. A. His dad jokes, no matter how silly, were always the pick me up that we needed during those intense times in marching and concert band. Thank you Mr. A for creating such wonderful childhood memories for me and for sharing your passion for music. My heart goes out to close friends and family. He will be sorely missed.

He was such a great teacher, friend, and person. He was always there to offer a bit of advice and help you out when you need it. He was generous with his time and wit and the world is surely a worse place without him. I know all of his students feel the same and I will miss him dearly. Thank you for everything you gave us, Mr. A.

To Michael and Jessica, I am so sorry for the loss of your father and father in law. He was a real renaissance man with many notable accomplishments.  You must be so proud of him. Again, I am so sorry. Much love from Aunt Dana
