Beatrice M. Reed

Beatrice Montine Stone Reed was born on August 31, 1920 in Clay County to Sarah Brister and Reuben Fowler Stone. She passed away on June 9, 2017 in Wichita Falls. Bea’s father died when she was a baby, and she and her six siblings were raised by their mother. Without much money, there was plenty of laughter to take them through the post-Depression years and the hard times of World War II.

When she was sixteen, Bea met Donald James Reed (Buster), and they were happily married until his death in 1971. Bea worked well into her seventies as a preschool teacher. Then she spent thirteen years of retirement at Royal Estates where she made many good friends.

Bea loved to travel with her sisters and they laughed their way through the western United States with frequent stops in Las Vegas. She had the privilege of being a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls for 85 years. During those years, she served the church in a number of capacities and attended her beloved Ben Bell Sunday School Class.

Bea loved to dance, Make candy to share, watch classic movies and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In defiance of medical science, she hated vegetables and exercise, and remained sharp until her final illness.

She is survived by daughters: Julie Reed and Kathy Reed and Kathy’s husband Ron Thompson; grandson Sean Valverde, granddaughter Kim Peterson, and great-grandchildren: Adam Alexandra, and Ashley Gallardo.

Visitation will be at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home from 6 – 8 PM, Thursday, June 15.

Services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 16, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls. 1526 Weeks Street, Wichita Falls, TX. 76302.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wesley United Methodist Church or to a pet rescue organization of your choice.
