Arthur was born on December 14, 1930 to Arthur H. and Etta V. Smith. After graduating from Frisco City (AL) High School, he became a proud member of the US Air Force, where he served until retiring as a distinguished Master Sgt. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Arthur spent time overseas in Thailand, Greenland, and Germany.
Arthur married Jeanette Sullivan in 1981 and spent the next 42 years by her side.
An avid golfer, he had a passion for woodworking and model airplanes, and he loved college football. His piercing blue eyes lit up when he cheered “Roll Tide!”, staying true to his Alabama roots.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and 4 siblings (Christine, Joe, John “Buddy”, and Ann), and his son, Arthur Jerrell Smith, Jr. He leaves behind his wife Jeannette, his son Gary Smith, his daughter Cathy Smith, stepchildren Cynthia (Bill “Harvey”) Kimbrough, J.D. “Don” (Kristy) Sullivan, and Dean (Amy) Sullivan, and countless grandkids and great-grandkids who adored him.
A Graveside Service will be held at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Memorial Park, in Wichita Falls, on Wednesday, November 1.
