Beatrice June (Farris) Chow, 95, a resident of Wilmington, CA, passed away on January 19, 2021, due to complications from COVID-related pneumonia. Born in the Philippines, June came to California at age 6 with her mother (Beatrice Correa) and father (Herbert George Farris). She lived in West LA and attended UCLA as a chemistry major.
Heavily involved in PTA at her childrens’ elementary school, she served in a number of board positions, including PTA President. In 1972, she received an honorary service award for her PTA activity “beyond the call of duty” including service at the LA Police Dept community meetings.
She served on the Asian American Commission for Education sacrificing time away from the family in hopes of improving educational opportunities for her children and grandchildren.
June was a founding member of the Harbor L.I.T.E.S., and has been recognized for 50 years of community spirit, hard work, and dedication to the Harbor Division - LAPD.
As her children grew and became more independent, June returned to the workforce part-time as the bookkeeper for Ramco and later as full-time office manager for Don Hellmer’s Engineering.
A social coordinator at heart, June served the senior community faithfully by organizing numerous daytrips to enjoy theatre events and showcase entertainers with Golden Tours Travel Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert (2011) and her son Michael (2006). She is survived by her children Bill, Danny, Cathy, Emily, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park – El Portal de la Paz, Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 11:00 am.
