Rev. Robert Dykstra, 90, of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2022 at The Pines in Whiting. Rev. Dykstra was born and raised in Midland Park, NJ. He lived in Minaville, NY, Sinking Valley, KY, Saddle Brook for 20 years, and Forked River for 14 years before moving to Crestwood Village, Whiting in 2003 then settling at The Pines in 2016.
Rev. Dykstra graduated from Montclair State University in 1954, Western Theological Seminary, Holland, MI in 1957 and studied at the University of Kentucky. He served as pastor for the Florida Reformed Church in Minaville, the Sinking Valley Reformed Church in Sinking Valley, the First Reformed Church of Saddle Brook, and the Community Reformed Church in Whiting before retiring in 1997. He also published a book by Harold Shaw titled “She Never Said Goodbye”.
In addition to practicing his faith, Rev. Dykstra loved fishing and going out on his boat with his wife, Alice. He was a nature enthusiast and enjoyed bird watching. He will be dearly missed.
Rev. Dykstra was predeceased by his first wife, Yvonne Dykstra, in 1984. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Alice Dykstra; his 2 daughters, Deborah Colombo and Elizabeth Dykstra; Alice’s 2 sons, Andrew Hallajian and Ara Hallajian and daughter, Melanie Soylemezoglu; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, James Dykstra; and his 2 sisters, Doris Crandall and Betty Hinnes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 9:30-10am at Community Reformed Church, 30 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held immediately afterward at 10am at the church. Burial will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rev. Dykstra’s memory can be made to Community Reformed Church.
