Joseph P. Hummel Sr. 73, of Whiting, passed away Monday at Community Medical Center, Toms River. Joe was born in Camden, he lived most of his life in South Toms River before moving to Whiting in 1983. Joe was a supervisor with the Ocean County Road Department and the Ocean County Solid Waste Management, working 44 years before retiring in 2002.
Surviving is his wife Fran Hummel of 56 years, his two sons Joseph P. Hummel Jr. of Beachwood, and Richard J. Hummel and his wife Leighann of Lanoka Harbor, and his daughter Mary Ann Rebenski of Whiting. His two brothers Forrest Hummel Jr. of Little Egg Harbor, and Jeff Hummel of Maine, his three sisters Betty Leaf and Judy Wedding both of South Toms River and Nancy Harker of Florida. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM at the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Road, Whiting, NJ. His funeral service will be Saturday at 10 AM at the funeral home, burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Toms River.
