Joan G. Fitzsimmons, 75, of the Whiting section of Manchester Twp. NJ, passed away resting peacefully in her sleep on December 22nd at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born in Irvington, NJ, she lived in Metuchen where she worked as a school secretary for the Woodbridge Township Board of Education. She retired and moved down to Whiting in 2002. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Edison before she moved and joined Christ Lutheran Church in Whiting. She was a grateful “friend of Bill W.” for many years and touched the lives of many. Joan enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends and was full of life and very active until recently.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, Frank Fitzsimmons, in 2007, her step-son, Andrew Fitzsimmons, in 1990 and her step-daughter, Ann Fitzsimmons, in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Cowdrick and her husband Bruce of Moneta, VA; her son, William R. Nye and his wife Lori of Bridgewater, NJ; 2 step-daughters, Mary Patricia McDowell of Menlo Park Terrace, NJ., and Ellen F. Hunter of Martinsburg, WV; 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren and her dearest friend and sister Joan Skelly of Toms River, NJ.
Friends may call on Sunday, December 27th from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. and on Monday from 11:30am-12:30 p.m.at the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, Manchester Twp. 08759. Funeral Services will be offered on Monday at 12:30 p.m. from the funeral home. Committal will follow at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd. Wrightstown, NJ.
