Janet Salisbury, 87, of Westwood, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2023 at AristaCare in Whiting, NJ. Janet was born and raised in the Bronx, NY and graduated from the High School of Music and Arts in New York City. After marrying, she lived in River Edge, NJ briefly before moving to Westwood, NJ in 1962 to raise her family.
Janet worked as a Legal Secretary for a lawyer in Westwood, NJ, and later became an executive assistant for a real estate developer in Edgewater, NJ. She was a member of the Central Unitarian Church in Paramus. Her biggest love, besides her family, was music and singing. She was a soloist at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Englewood and several other houses of worship for many years and a member of Pro Arte Chorale in Ridgewood, NJ. She also volunteered delivering food for Meal on Wheels and taught English as a second language.
Janet is predeceased by her husband, James K. Salisbury. She and Jim loved to travel, visiting many places around the country and the world including Costa Rica, Thailand, China, Australia, New Zealand and many places throughout Europe. She also enjoyed cooking and was a member of a traveling gourmet cooking group. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her son, Geoffrey Turner of Toms River, NJ, daughter, Wendy Towers and her husband Mark of Del Haven, NJ, and son, Glenn Turner of Leesport, PA, stepson, James Salisbury, Jr. and his wife Paula; 6 grandchildren, Rachel Turner, Stephanie Turner and her fiancée Paul Kremer, Ryan Turner, Kimberly Dachisen and her husband Derek, Sean Towers and his wife Amanda Cardinali, and Benjamin Towers and his wife Allison; 2 step-grandchildren Jordan Salisbury and Katie Salisbury, and 3 great-grandchildren, Julia, Emma and Oliver. She is also survived by her sister, Ceil Grossman of Savannah, GA.
