George Ronald Abraham, 77 of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022 at home. George was born and raised in Vicksburg, MS. He graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN and went on to get his PhD from the University of Mississippi. He briefly taught at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI where he served as head of the English Department before moving to Memphis, TN where he was an executive for Fred’s Discount Stores.
George later started his own management consulting business which led him to move to New York City through his retirement. He authored 2 books; “Your Last Diet Plan” with Katherine Abraham and the award-winning “7 Deadly Work Sins”. During his time in New York City, George taught part-time at Hofstra University and the Fashion Institute of Technology, and was the host of a business consulting radio show.
George retired to Whiting in 2016 but continued to provide management-consulting services. He loved watching classic movies and animals of all kinds, especially his precious cat, Jett, and his dog, Redford.
George is predeceased by his parents, Fried and Evelyn Abraham; his son, George R. Abraham, II; his 2 sisters, Carolyn Bjurstrom and Linda Thigpen; and his brother, Freddy Abraham. He is survived by his daughter, Katherine Abraham-Evans and her husband David of Atlanta, GA; and 2 granddaughters, Caroline and Charlotte. He is also survived by his dear companion and friend, Gail Smith.
A Celebration of Life gathering of family & friends will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2022 at 10am at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN. Memorial Services will begin at 11am. Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting, NJ is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
