An important year, 1919 ! The year women won the right to vote in the U.S.A. Also important a baby girl was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. of an Immigrant Italian Couple.
Her name is Frances, but better known today as Fay, born on May 27th, 1919.
This very strong minded, independent, kind hearted & religious catholic little girl, kept this personality throughout her whole life. She persevered through many hardships showing her strong tenacity
She was one of 8 children, 4 boys & 4 girls born to Joseph and Francesca Tagliavia. Relocated from Palermo, Italia. Always remembering her Italian roots and an inbred flare for cooking the food of her heritage, passed down to her, especially “Seafood”. She was a wonderful and creative cook!!! Until her last weeks at home, “Still Cooking”! Always creating new recipes and loving to FEED guests..
Of the eight children, she has a younger sister, Madeline, who still resides in Brooklyn, close to her family roots.
Married at a very young age, both she and husband Jack, survived many years of marriage and celebrated their 50th Anniversary, renewing their vows in the church they were married in. They raised two children. One boy, Joseph (Joe) and a daughter Janet (Jan). Two harder working parents could not be found. Always putting their lives second to their children’s needs. A lesson many young parents of today could follow.
In the next chapter of Jack and Fay’s life, they moved to Whiting, New Jersey, in 1977 to a completely different lifestyle. They made many friends and became active in their community. Enjoying a social life unlike the type they shared in Brooklyn. After the passing of her husband in 1991, Fay filled her time with planning bus trips to Atlantic City, which was her favorite recreation. Fay never met a Slot Machine, that she didn’t like! Although, “Poker” was her favorite.
She always remained active in her church, even when she could no longer attend mass in person, she gave endlessly for the financial support of her parish, and enjoyed receiving communion at home, when available.
