Mike was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 15, 1949, to the late Vincent William and Mary Helen Hurst. He grew up in Michigan and graduated from St. Mary of Redford High School in 1967. Mike received his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University in 1972. He retired from Chrysler after a successful 32-year career.
Mike met the love of his life, Manon Pagen, in 1999. They spent many happy years together and got married in December of 2007. His love for her was pure, unconditional and complete.
Mike was kind, generous, funny, and fiercely loyal to his family and friends. He had a dry sense of humor, often sarcastic; you had to be quick to keep up with him. His laugh was contagious. Mike was a sensitive soul, something he tried very hard to hide, mostly without success. He had a big heart; he would drop everything he was doing if somebody needed help. He loved spending time with his family and had a very special place in his heart for Hannah.
Mike loved to travel, even though he really hated flying. Together with Manon, he visited many countries in the world, and was always open to another adventure. Mike lived life on his own terms, he would never let his stoma stop him from doing anything; he refused to let it define him. At the same time, he was a great support for other ostomates, as a member of the Oakland County of Michigan Ostomy Support group.
Mike will also be remembered for his love of cars, especially hot rods and muscle cars, music and drumming, movies, bike rides and walks in the park, and for his love of nature and animals.
Loving husband of Manon. Dear brother and brother-in-law of Richard (Sharon) Hurst, Patti Rex, Marc (Irene) Pagen. Treasured “cute uncle Mike” of Melissa (Derek) Malerman, Laura (Anthony) Hurst-Gugino, Kathi Tracy, Maureen (Mark) Lechmere and Sheila Down. Proud great-uncle of Maya, Hannah, Natalie, Alex, Levi, Kaitlynn, Thomas, Henry and Oliver.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 05:00pm until 08:00pm at the Union Lake Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 1233 Union Lake Road in White Lake.
