Dear Gessners, 
I was so sad to hear of Jim's passing. From those long ago days as our next door neighbors on Muirland, I never knew at the time how fortunate we were to live on such a great block with wonderful, caring neighbors.  Seems like so much of our lives revolved around the people on that block.  My parents so enjoyed having you there.  Jim had that perpetual mischievous grin and twinkle in his eye and you knew he was up to something (in my case, there seemed to be a pre-occupation with water balloons).  I hope the kind words and memories from Jim's many friends/family from so many places can be a source of comfort.


Nicole and I are friends from elementary school and I always thought she had the coolest dad. He was so fun. He would talk to us and play silly games and let us stay up late during sleepovers and make us popcorn. He was a great Dad and everyone at Gesu knew it. 

My deepest condolences to Nicole and her family. Your father is loved and remembered. 

Thank you Jim for the amazing times share while working and playing on Electric Choice at DTE.  You were a mentor and a great teacher.  They say you learn the most from those who push you the hardest.  I learned an enormous amount from you; many things of which I continue to apply today.

May God bless the Gessner family and give you peace during these difficult times....

I will always remember Mr. Gessner as the slim, trim, dark haired, and very fun neighbor across the street with the "ooh so very cool convertible MGM Triumph"! I can easily see him as the prankster kid taunting a younger sister. He took Nicky and I to Palmer Park and the movies. He treated us like princesses. The Gessner family will always hold a place in my heart.

I enjoyed working for Jim in our Division Services days at Detroit Edison and together we successfully navigated the PCB crisis of 1983.  Jim was a good man and a fair man.  I will always remember him fondly and my thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time, may we meet again in God’s presence.

I haven't seen Jim for a long time. We played racquetball together, in the old DTE gym, back in the late 80's. I retired in 2006 after 31 great years at DTE. Jim was a great guy who was liked by everyone. I am sincerely sorry for the loss to his family and friends. 

I am so shocked to hear this news. I don't want to believe this is true, that maybe he's just pulling a prank, and he'll pop up in a post on Facebook somewhere. He's one of my closest longest Facebook internet friends 😢😢😢😢😢😢 James McCarney Gessner, myself, & our other facebook hooligan Adrian would post all the time and tease each other, tag each other. We first met on the Robin Hood game that used to be on facebook. Close to 10 years ago. He Always tagged me in redhead posts lol. He is one of a kind. Truly for me Facebook will NEVER be the same without him. I wish I could be there for the memorial, but he lives in another state, and we were online friends. I'm heartbroken and I cannot even imagine how his family must feel right now, my heart and positive thoughts go out to you all!!

Dear Gessner Family,
I knew Jim through Hosteling International.  Went on several trips to snow shoe in Canada to a Labor Day trip to Grand Island.  He was a wonderful guy who was just enjoyable to be around .
I am so sorry to hear about Jim's passing.  Please Jim....RIP  My thoughts and prayers are with you, Pam and the Family.
I am leaving for Australia on Thurs and will not be able to join you in the celebration of Life on Friday.  I will raise a glass in his honor in Sydney!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Although I worked and retired from DTE as an Operstions Resource Coordinator,  I never worked with him.  However, my husband Dennis knew him well growing up as they both attended Mount Caramel and graduated together. He remembered going to his house after school and said what a nice and intelligent guy he was.  We attended the twenty year reunion, so that was probably the last time we seen him.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Hugs, love and prayers to all of you at this most difficult time.
