Born in Highland Park, Michigan, Isabel was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth McBrien. On September 26, 1953, she married the love of her life, Thomas Mooney, with whom she shared 57 cherished years of marriage until his passing.
Isabel attended college immediately after graduating high school, and went on to graduate from the Highland Park General Hospital School of Nursing in 1954, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. The beginning of her career started at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak before taking a hiatus to stay at home to raise her three children. After the kids had grown, she returned to nursing and spent the remainder of her career at the Providence Family Clinic in South Lyon, forging quick and life-long lasting friendships with the staff there.
Isabel and Thomas were passionate adventurers, spending much of their time traveling across all 50 states in their RV. Their love for the outdoors took them to numerous national parks, and they reveled in the beauty of the American landscape together. Their enthusiasm for exploration and nature was a legacy they proudly passed on to their children.
An active and dedicated community member, Isabel was deeply involved with Active Faith Community Service in South Lyon, where she generously contributed both items and her time to the food pantry. Her spirit of service extended to her church, the Church of the Holy Cross, where she considered the parishioners her second family. Isabel led and organized The Prayer Shawl Group, a knitting club that created blessed shawls for individuals in need of comfort, whether they were church members or not.
After moving to Fox Run, Isabel continued to share her talents and warmth by participating in a quilting group, crafting quilts for residents entering memory care or rehabilitation. Her vibrant social life at Fox Run was highlighted by her enjoyment of games and the companionship of fellow residents.
Isabel is remembered for her kindness, dedication to service, and boundless love for her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and a lasting impact on all who knew her. She is survived by her children Greg (Debra) of Fayetteville TX, Jeff (Renee) of Lapeer, MI, and Gail (Lori) of Westland, MI; grandchildren Brandon (Jenny), Nicole (Henry) and Sara (Byron); and great-grandchildren Lane and Isabella.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10:00 am followed by a light luncheon at the Church of the Holy Cross, located at 40700 W. 10 Mile Rd, Novi, MI 48375.
