Harry Robert Carter Jr., age 79, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, was born March 10, 1944 in Middletown, New York, and passed away April 20, 2023 at home. Loving father of Matthew (Tammy) Carter and Rebecca (Frank) Carter-York. Proud grandfather of Brooke Carter, Julianne Carter, and Grady Carter. Dear brother of Marlene (Harvey) Hilburgh and Jane (John) Holschuh. Harry was preceded in passing by his beloved wife, Marti of 50 years; and his parents, Harry Sr. and Doris Carter. Harry will be missed by numerous other family members and friends.
Harry held many titles in his life including Empire Farmer with the Minisink Valley FFA Chapter, President-Michigan Dairy Association and was an MBA graduate from MSU to name a few. The most humble of titles ‘son, brother, husband, Dad, Grampy’ were the titles for which he was most proud.
His successful career in the dairy industry spanned nearly six decades. Harry had a work ethic that was second to none and he was proud to have retired from Prairie Farms Dairy at the age of 74 where he served as General Manager and assisted local farmers in supplying milk for all school children daily.
Aside from his love for family, Harry was a world traveler having visited upwards of 20 countries in his lifetime. He consulted with various manufacturers in different countries and visited many countries for pleasure. One adventure in Barbados resulted in his honorary title of “El Presidente de Barbados’ for an evening. A trip to Japan with his wife was among his favorite trips as they were able to see the cherry blossom trees in bloom and a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
A devoted husband to Marvelous Marti for 50 years he enjoyed taking her on corvette rides around the country, to a spot a couple hours from their home for Zanzibar chocolate ice cream or to see sandhill cranes for which they both shared a love of. Harry was also an avid hunter, golfer, reader and valued being up to date with world events.
Harry leaves behind a lasting legacy of values that will be passed down for generations work, integrity, selflessness, lifelong learning, generosity, commitment, strength and love are among a few that will be carried in our hearts and exemplified to change the world for the better.
