Donald Bernhard Kohler, age 73, of West Bloomfield, passed away Monday, May 16, 2022, surrounded by his family. Left to cherish his memory are his two children: John Kohler, and Andrea (Jason) Vassas; his four grandchildren: Zach, Abbey, Evan, and Donald; and his four siblings: Charlotte, David (Peggy), Elaine (Bill), and Paul.
Donald was born November 28, 1948, in Monroe, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Clarence “Jake” and Thelma (Reinhardt) Kohler. Donald received his bachelor’s degree in education from Concordia University with the Class of 1970, and then went on to teach mathematics, science, and information technology classes at Huron Valley Schools for thirty-two years until his retirement in 2010. Donald met the love of his life, Kristine, at a young age, and they quickly began dating, fell in love, and were eventually married in 1971, sharing thirty-seven wonderful years together until Kristine’s death on September 18, 2008.
In his free time, Donald loved to practice his photography skills. He also enjoyed all the memories he made spending time with his son-in-law Jason, working on their projects together. Most of all, Donald loved spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren! He was a wonderful man who will be dearly missed. He can be seen wearing his favorite “Old Hippies Rule” t shirt, which his family so fondly remembers.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Thelma; his wife, Kristine; and his brother-in-law, Jerry.
In accordance with Donald’s wishes, cremation will take place. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions in Donald’s memory to Calvary Lutheran Church. A memorial service is being scheduled for a later date.
