William Douglas England, of Lakewood, CO, passed away on February 17, 2024 in a skiing accident at Grand Targhee Ski Resort in Wyoming. Born on February 22, 1956 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Philip Leon England and Betty Laverne England, William lived a life full of adventure, passion, and love.
William, known to his loved ones as Dougie or Dougie Fresh, was a vibrant soul who touched the hearts of everyone he met. His zest for life was unmatched, and his spirit will continue to live on in the memories of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dougie graduated from Slidell High School and went on to pursue higher education at the University of Southwestern Louisiana “Ragin’ Cajun.” He later embarked on a fulfilling career as an Air Traffic Controller at Denver International Airport, where his dedication and professionalism were truly commendable.
Beyond his professional achievements, Doug was a man of many interests and hobbies. He found solace in the great outdoors, often indulging in activities such as biking, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, mountain climbing, river rafting, playing basketball, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, and fishing. His adventurous spirit knew no bounds, and he was always up for a new challenge or expedition.
In his leisure time, Doug enjoyed watching college sports, savoring an extra dirty martini or bourbon, and immersing himself in his love for history. One of his annual highlights was attending Mardi Gras in New Orleans, where he reveled in the vibrant celebrations and rich cultural experiences.
Dougie's compassionate nature and genuine affection for his family were evident in the deep connections he shared with his loved ones. He is survived by his soul mate and dream girl, Norfina “Fee” Velasquez, who brought light and warmth into his life. He is also survived by his sister, Denise Ann England Lutton, his brother, Phillip Stephen England, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who adored him dearly.
A memorial service for Dougie will take place on February 24, 2024 at the Red Rocks Trading Post in Morrison, CO, with an after party celebration of life at Genesee Pub and BBQ, where friends and family will come together to honor his memory and share stories of his remarkable life.
William Douglas England leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and joy. His absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit will forever shine brightly in the lives of those he touched. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to us all.
