My sincere sympathy to Tillie and family on the loss of their dear husband, father, grandfather and great friend. I remember him as a fun-loving, cheerful man who truly enjoyed life and his family. Peace

   I can't remember a time when Uncle Walt and Aunt Tillie weren't a wonderful part of my life. Growing up in the Denver metro area, the Wyoda family and Buttenmiller family would share a delicious Sunday dinner at Grandpa Carl Buttenmiller's house at least twice a month. Grandpa was an amazing chef and baker! Uncle Walt always made these get togethers so much fun. One memory that still makes me smile is how my dad, Wolf, would greet Uncle Walt with a hearty, "How's it going Jackson?"
   "Doing great Jackson," Walt would reply, "Are you keeping your nose clean?"
   Uncle Walt was the family prankster, his sense of humor was always a part of our family gatherings as was the laughter he inspired.
   One of my earliest memories of Uncle Walter was when he and Aunt Tillie came with my parents to the building site of their new home in Green Mountain, at the time only the basement was poured, a big cement hole in the ground. Uncle Walt jumped down there to check it out, make sure it was being done right. I can still picture him talking up to my parents from that new basement, nothing but Colorado sky above. 
   Over the years Uncle Walt and Aunt Tillie welcomed us into their home for so many family celebrations, Christmas mornings and then Christmas Eves, Thanksgiving dinners, birthday celebrations and more. I am so blessed to have the memories of so much family love and laughter thanks to the loving hospitality of the Wyoda clan. One Christmas Eve tradition that made us all laugh was when Aunt Tillie would round up all the men and boys to stand in a row and sing "We Three Kings". Walt would always belt it out a bit louder and funnier than the rest. He could really hold a note. He also instigated the famed family paper fights, after the presents had been unwrapped!
   The first Christmas Eve that I brought my future husband, Mark, to the Wyoda's house, Uncle Walt and Aunt Tillie made him feel like family. Mark loved them both immediately. Mark was always inspired by Uncle Walt's skill as a painter and handyman. Whenever Mark takes on a home improvement project, he asks himself, "How would Walt do it?" A high standard indeed!
   When our youngest kid, Andy, was about to go into the army, we paid a visit to Uncle Walt and Aunt Tillie. Uncle Walt told Andrew stories of his time in the army in WWII. One very poignant story was when Walt and an army buddy were patrolling a corn field on Okinawa. Walt's buddy spotted a Japanese soldier taking aim at Walt and shot him, saving Walter's life. Walter tells of the two of them walking over to the dead soldier and looking through his wallet. Walt said that there was a picture of the young man with his mom and dad and sister. He was moved, realizing that he was basically a kid, much like Walt and his buddy, who were about nineteen at the time. Andy and his great uncle, Walt talked for a long while and Andy really appreciated his wisdom.
  Uncle Walt, Aunt Tillie and their daughters have always been such an example of real Christian love in my life. They inspire me in so many ways. My life and the lives of my family have been so much richer because Uncle Walter was a part of them. I will miss my uncle Walt so much and take comfort in knowing we will meet again in Heaven. We love you Uncle Walter!

Uncle Walt you were the best!  I will always cherish the special times we had together.  What fun our families shared together at Grandpa's each Sunday afternoon.    Early on you made quite an impression on me.  How could I forget the Taylor Man!  When I was around 4 or 5 and was still sucking my thumb, you read me an old German children's story about the Talyor Man, who had a giant sheers where he would cut off the thumb of any child he would catch sucking their thumb.  And when you showed me your thumb that was half cutoff and said that's what happened to you....well needless to say I was cured of that habit.
I will always remember the many fishing trips you took me on.  The one that stands out the most is when you took me and my Dad to Iceberg Lake.   I remember how curvy the dirt narrow gauge train road was going up Rollins Pass.  The road was so narrow that only one car could pass.   The slopes were steep and over the edge road seemed like it was 1,000 feet straight down.  I look over at you and you were packing your pipe with tobacco while steering your truck with just your elbow.  Must have been a trick from your race car days.  The long hike to the top of the ridge was pretty much all above timberline.  The views on top were breathtaking and you could see many glacier type lakes below, including Carter lake where there was still wreckage from an old small plane that went down long ago.   At Iceberg lake the water was so clear you could see the cutthroat trout swimming several feet below the surface.  I remember just about every cast we would at least get a rise or bite.  That trip left such an impression on me that I have gone back several times with friends.  Always telling them about my adventures with you.
There were several first with you.  You gave me my first fishing pole, and my first car (1962 Ford Galaxy 500)!  Very nice!
There are just so many stories and adventures to tell.
Everybody should have the joy of having a Uncle Walt!
I'm truly blessed that Shelly got to know you and experience your great sense of humor!   Both you and Aunt Tillie made everyone feel so at home.
Uncle Walt, you will be truly missed!  But thank God that is not the end of the story but only the beginning.  For all of us who put our trust in Jesus, we will someday all be reunited together, forever!
I love you Aunt Tillie and all of the family! .....May the Lord bring you comfort in knowing that Walt is with the Lord as well as all our loved ones that have gone home before.  We are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses cheering the rest of us on!

For the six years of my marriage to Walt's daughter Peggy Walt became my best friend. Like King David and Jonathan, we loved each other as much as two men can. We not only fished, hunted, and golfed together but he was the first to model discipleship for me as a Christian man. Walt was truly a man's man. He was an artist as a painter and taught me his skill. He taught me how to fix cars and build houses, things I didn't learn from my own father. We shared our deepest secrets with each other, the kind you never share with anyone else and it knitted our souls. Tillie, you know I loved you like my own mom. Our years together are precious memories for me. I am praying that God enables you to overcome your deep sorrow so you might, by His grace, celebrate Walt's long and blessed life, knowing he's in eternity with his savior. Love, Rob

Uncle Walt and Aunt Tillie let my sister Linda and me become part of their family every summer when we visited from Michigan. We had so much fun with our cousins - "camping out" in the driveway in their trailer. Picnics in Bergen Park. Playing in the kid-size dollhouse that Uncle Walt built.  So many wonderful memories!  My thoughts and prayers are with Aunt Tillie and the family.

Our family has had the pleasure of living nextdoor to Walter and Tillie for nearly 19 years. Our kids grew up with Walter's humor and kidding ways since they can remember. We have lots of memories of his stories he has shared with us over the years. He will be missed by us and the neighborhood. He was truly one of a kind. Mike,Carol,Cassandra & Lucas Vagher

Walt can find more adventure in a walk around the block than most people find in a lifetime.

Walt was a man of God, God's man, a man's man,  a lady's man,  a children's man, a man for all seasons,  a man for all the right reasons,  a super man. He was my hero. He was my Dad. He was passionate and compassionate, trusting and trustworthy, totally alive and living every minute to the max.

I always loved "hanging out" at the Wyoda's house.  Walt was fun loving and treated all of us as his extended kids.  The Kingston gang was lucky to have him around.  My prayers are with each member of the family.  He will be missed.

To our amazing travel buddies whom we grew to love dearly over the years.
So many fun trips and practical pranks
due to Walt being such a prankster. 
The rooster one went on and on and on. 
So, whenever I hear a rooster from
now on, I will look heavenward and smile.
We have one more journey to take to get
us all back together again.

We have known Walt and Tillie over 40 years and have many wonderful memories of our time together.  Jerry worked with Walt for many years.  We all bowled together and spent many an evening having dinners and playing games.  Walt was quite the tease and he was always giving me a bad time and telling me to behave. I have a whole lifetime of memories of time with Walt and family and was privileged to be his son in law for over 30 wonderful years while married to Sam. I called him both family and friend and will miss him, but I'm happy for him that he is now with the Lord and is getting to see Sam his loving daughter again after nearly fourteen years as well as all of his other family members and friends that passed on before him. We had some great times fishing, camping, building the cabin as well as his and Tillie's home together and many fun trips to Mexico, El Paso, Phoenix and California. Time goes by so quickly and it was a blessing to know Walt for 45 years. Love you Walt and Tillie and all of the family!!
