Susan Renée Kirkpatrick, 59, of Littleton Colorado, passed away suddenly on March 27, 2024. She was born Susan Renée Gilmore in Lexington, Kentucky on June 8, 1964 to Don Gilmore and Paula Trautmann. Graduating from Columbine High School in 1982, she went on to study English and French at the University of Colorado Boulder. While attending the university, she studied abroad in Bordeaux, France, for her junior year.
After graduating with degrees in English and French, she began her career as a teacher. While in college she met Robert Daniels whom she married, and the pair moved to California. There, Susan taught at Antioch Middle School for ten years. Susan and Robert’s relationship ended, and as time passed, she remarried to Dennis Kirkpatrick. The two of them returned to Colorado and adopted two lovely little girls from China, Olivia in 2003 and Alyssa in 2005. She became a single, stay-at-home mom and an active member in the community. Being a teacher at heart, Susan returned to work in the fall of 2020 as a paraprofessional educator at Dakota Ridge High School. She worked passionately with the students at this school until her unexpected passing.
Susan was a dedicated reader, writer, and cat-lover. Her passing is a great shock, gravely felt by her family and the countless others who she touched throughout her life. She is survived by her mother and father, her siblings (Stephen, Rick, Chris, and Julie), her step-father (Bruce Trautmann), as well as her two daughters and two cats (Ozzie and Jax). She was kind, patient, and open minded. Susan remains in our hearts as a beautiful person who loved deeply and was loved by many, even more than she knew.
The family deeply appreciates all the support during this difficult time. We ask that you contribute by sharing memories of our beloved Susan on our memorial website.
