She is survived by her son Kevin Ferry, daughter-in-law Lisa Ferry, and her granddaughter Nicole Ferry. She was preceded by her parents John and Jessie, brother John Jr. and brother James. Sandy enjoyed spending time with her family and her dogs. She was especially fond of the of laughter she shared with Lisa, making memories with her granddaughter Nicole, and always being a cheerleader for Kevin. Sandy also loved crafts and over the years enjoyed knitting, sewing and baking.
After graduating from East High School in Denver, Sandy attended Parks Business School and went on to work as an executive assistant for most of her life until she retired. She filled these roles primarily in the health insurance and banking fields. Sandy was highly skilled at coordination and organization of executive meetings, events, and communications.
One constant attribute of Sandy was a desire to help. She spent a great part of her life volunteering time to help other individuals and organizations. She always had concerns for the well-being of neighbors and friends, particularly seniors. Sandy developed this drive to help wherever she could as a teenager.
Aside from her family and career, one of the most iconic endeavors of Sandy’s was her involvement with the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. She became involved with the Blue Knights when she was a teenager and marched as part of the color guard traveling around the country during the summers with corps participating in competitions for five-years. Sandy established many life-long friendships as a result of her participation with the Blue Knights.
Her desire to document the legacy and history of the Blue Knights and preserving the traditions of the drum corps became the most profound example of Sandy’s dedication to volunteering her time and skills. As a result, she renewed her involvement with the Blue Knights starting with organizing a reunion of the original members in 1988 and then by continuing with volunteering as a booster, helping with the main office, serving as a board member and working on multiple committees. These activities allowed her to establish many more long friendships. She continued this dedication and her involvement all the way to her the time of her passing. In 2020, Sandy was inducted into the Blue Knights Hall of Fame.
