Sandra “Sandi” Lynn (Raffelson) Maloney was born on August 31, 1952 and passed away on October 2, 2018 due to complications from COPD. She passed peacefully with her sons Timothy (36) and Gregory (40) at her side.
Sandi grew up in Ludlow, SD, being the first member of her family to be born in a hospital in Bowman, ND. She learned her work ethic from working on her father’s farm and her dedication from being a championship-level barrel racer. She accomplished much in her life and served as a leader for numerous causes throughout her life.
Sandi had a long career in healthcare administration. She started at Blue Cross Blue Shield before moving to the Colorado Medical Society, quickly being promoted to Executive Director, the first-ever woman promoted to that position. She served in that position for over 19 years, working to better the practice of medicine in Colorado. She felt it was time to move on, and found herself working for the Senior’s Resource Center for over 8 years, continuing to serve the healthcare needs of her community.
Sandi was a fierce woman, a kind woman, and a beacon of light to all those who knew her. She had a deep love for her family and friends; no matter how she was feeling, she was always willing to lend a compassionate ear or a shoulder to cry on. She will be missed greatly by all those who knew her.
Sandi was preceded in death by her older sister Betty Clark (Sturgis, SD), older brother Walt (Montana), younger sister Janice (age >6 months, SD), and parents Sigurd and Borghild Raffelson. She is survived by her older sister Ella Mae (age 83), sons Tim and Greg, and grandchildren Ashlyn (age 14) and Ethan (age 11), all of whom reside in Colorado.
Sandi’s family would like to thank the staff of Wheat Ridge Manor Care Center and Compassus Hospice for their efforts in keeping her comfortable during her final hours.
Sandi has been cremated and will be inurned at the Tower of Memories at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary in Wheat Ridge, CO. Services to be held on October 13, 2018 at 11am (reception to follow), and a private service to inurn her will occur later in the month with family.
