Russell Earnest Griffith II, given the nickname Bigdog by his eldest grandchild Logan, peacefully left us to be with the Lord on Saturday August 5th, 2023 at 10:16 a.m. in Littleton, Colorado surrounded by his beloved daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and sons in law. Russell Earnest Griffith, was born to Viola Ann Griffith (Colm) and Russell Earnest Griffith the First on September 22nd, 1944 in Ashland Kentucky.
Bigdog was brought up alongside his 6 siblings Mark Griffith, John Griffith, Pat and Pam Griffith, and Sue Griffith. He was the 2nd oldest child and loved his parents and older sister Sue dearly, who preceded him in death. He spent the beginning years of his life in Ashland Kentucky before moving to Colorado. This is where he ultimately came to call home, after meeting the love of his life, Shari Joan Pierce, in Capitol Hill Denver. Shari gave Russell his two beautiful daughters, Annie and Jessica Griffith, that decidedly drove his decision making and the course of the rest of his life. They moved to Plano Texas for many years and ultimately moved back to Colorado where Bigdog enjoyed watching his family grow for the past 25 years to include great grandchildren.
Bigdog loved the lord first, family second, and fishing came as a close third. Russell also loved old westerns and John Wayne, as well as Winston Churchill, W.C Fields, the ocean, watching the rain and was the best salesman that this side of the united states territory has ever seen. A man who could truly sell ice to an Eskimo, Russell Earnest Griffith the 2nd was a child of God and more than anything else, he was a man who trusted and honored the lord. This was further established by the word 'Agape', in which he signed all of his letters. Agape is the translation in Greek for unconditional love. This is what Russ demonstrated throughout his life and in his interactions with others.
Russell Earnest Griffith, Bigdog went by F&F which meant Family and Fishing. He was a devout patriot and loved his country. It was an honor to know and love him and he will be missed dearly and irrevocably.
He is survived by siblings Mark Griffith, John Griffith, Patrick Griffith, Pamela Griffith, two Daughters Jessica Holzwarth and son-in-law Eric Holzwarth, and Annie Griffith and grandchildren Logan Fine, Landry Holzwarth, Russell Holzwarth, Sam Hood and Sophia Hood, and great grandchildren Hunter Fine and Flora Fine.
