Rita Rose met David Henshaw while roller skating at Mammoth Gardens and they married June 21, 1947. They had three sons. Preceding her in death were two of her sons, Steven Lindy and William Patrick. They passed within 6 months of each other in 2015. She is survived by her third son, Jeff Henshaw (spouse, Sandy), 4 grandchildren (and spouses), 9 great grand kids and 3 great-greats! Also survived by her sister, Mary Ann (Scheer) Langley, her children and their families. She leaves behind three beloved pets, Honey, Baby, and Gabby.
Rita was typical of her generation, being the wife and mother keeping the home fires burning. She was well known for her love of animals throughout the years. We lost count, but she gave them the very best care. She was one of the first to bring the Chinese Shar-pei breed to America.
As a homemaker she was an excellent cook, following her mother’s lead of years in the catering business, and generations of hearty farm centered meals. Later years she always kept a stash of Little Debbie delights, Enstrom’s Chocolate and other favorites. It made life sweeter.
She also filled her time trying to conquer the newest computer program so that she could write the many stories spinning in her mind. Her writing consisted of fiction stories drawn from her childhood growing up in Keenesburg. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her weekly visits to the library. And through the years she enjoyed working to master oil painting, leaving numerous framed landscapes handed down to family.
Her best friend was her sister Mary Ann. Every night at 7pm they would talk for at least an hour, sharing the news of the day.
To her family, she was known as Granny. You would always find her wearing bright colors: yellow, green and pink! We all enjoyed her cooking, her art work, and if we were looking for chocolate, we knew where to find it. Many say she was stubborn which may have been her key to the 95 full and independent years that she lived. We were lucky to be a part of that!
