Richard was raised in Goodland, KS, and graduated from Sherman Community High School where he played football, basketball, and ran track. It was during this time he met his future wife, Lulu. He graduated in 1950 and attended junior college for one year before joining the United States Air Force. After completing his military duty, he and Lulu settled in Aurora, CO where they raised three boys and he worked as a carpenter. He eventually started his own company and built custom homes throughout the Denver metro area.
Having remarried, he and his wife, Pat, lived in the Denver area until retiring to Delta, CO where he enjoyed his passion for fishing on the Grand Mesa.
Richard was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was loved by both his families and will be truly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his sister Pauline Renner and his grandson Bryce Barnett. He is survived by his wife Pat, his children, Rick Barnett, of Lone Tree, Jeff Barnett and wife Mary of Parker, Stan Barnett and wife Robbie of Castle Pines, Deb Thomason and husband David of Arvada, Russ Crawford of Delta, and Jana Rowe of Arvada: grandchildren Kyle Barnett and wife Julie of Lakewood, Travis Barnett and wife Louise of Littleton, Hannah Barnett, of Tallahassee, FL, Rachael Snyder and husband Steve of Larkspur, Ryan Barnett and wife Hannah of Parker, Audrey Oserow and her husband Mike of Honolulu, HI, Jill Greenagel and her husband Jack of Denver, Faye Revis and her husband Jerome of Castle Rock, Britnee Harding of Arvada, and Kayli Rowe of Arvada, Monaca Gentry and her husband Chris of Indianapolis, Indiana, Josh Thomason and his wife Deseree Thomason of Conifer : great grandchildren Keirian, Iris, Kinley, Gus, Sadie, McKenna, Hudson, Blake, Elizabeth, Cash, Ellie, Jackson, Owen, and Ruby.
