My condolences to Mr. Wall's family, he was an amazing man and I only wish I could've thanked him sooner for the kindness, compassion, and love he had. I was in his Kindergarten class 2000-2001 and moved away a few years later. I cried on the last day of Kindergarten because I wanted to be in his class again next year and found out I couldn't (picture of that moment). 
I tried to reach out to him after I graduated to thank him for pushing me to be my best self, but life got in the way. 

Thank you for being my Kindergarten teacher you taught me that kindness cures all types of wounds. You will always be remembered in our hearts.

I was so fortunate and blessed to have Mr. Walls as my Kindergarten teacher 25 years ago. Mr. Walls was an absolutely amazing teacher with such incredible and endless love, care, joy, and thoughtfulness. He knew all of his students so so so well and built such strong relationships with every single one of them. His students always felt his warmth and felt heard, seen and valued. He often asked me as I was entering his classroom on Mondays, “What did you do this weekend? Dance with some boys?” (Or something silly like that which my mom always said was so cute- he always knew how to put a smile on your face and make you laugh). I wish I would have kept in touch with him more and expressed how much of a positive impact he made in my life; as a teacher for the last 8 years, he has been my inspiration. I send all of my love to his family, as he sent all of his love to everyone throughout his life. 

I was fortunate enough to have Mr Walls as my kindergarten, 3rd, and 5th grade teacher, he moved through elementary with me and was a very big part of my life. He was one of the most caring and thoughtful people I have ever known. He always took the time to make sure you understood something or just to let you know that he cares about you. I will surely miss him and never forget everything he has done for me. My favorite memory of him is how much he loved snickers and I did too! So we would always snack on them together, sometimes he would even just tap me on the shoulder and hand me a snickers in class then give me a wink. You Wil be missed Rex!

Rex Walls and I were stationed together in Rota, Spain, in 1969-1971. We worked in different disciplines and in slightly offset watch schedules, but our family and his family became the best of friends. Only Tuesday, the first of his children, had been born. We were visiting his house in military quarters one day, and our daughter (only 3 and a half herself) had gone over to a neighbor to play with another group of kids her age. But she didn’t come back to Rex’s house and didn’t come back and didn’t come back, and we four adults began looking through the neighborhood. Rex and I were coming around a corner, and we saw our spouses greeting a woman who had picked up our daughter. Our daughter had remembered that our house was near the swimming pool by a bus stop, so she got on a bus and rode the 35-mile circuit INSIDE THE NAVAL STATION at least twice before this woman got on the bus and helped get her back to the place where she originally boarded the bus! Whew!
Rex never stopped looking and trying to think of where a three-year-old could hide...playing hide-and-seek.

Mr. Walls was my kindergarten teacher at Independence Elementary, nearly 23 years ago (in 1997); and he was also my brother's kindergarten teacher 4 years prior to that. Despite over two decades having passed by, I still remember his warmth, authenticity, and gentle nature. Specifically, I recall incubating chicken eggs in class. When the chicks first hatched, he allowed me to the be the first student to hold a tiny red-feather chick that I had grown especially fond of. Mr. Walls also knew I was a MASSIVE Denver Broncos fan, and he gifted me a life-sized poster of John Elway that has hung in my childhood bedroom for the last 23  years. These small gestures and this type of personalized education are so formative for a young mind and blossoming soul. 

Mr. Walls made every student feel valuable, worthwhile, and capable. He touched the life of me, my brother, and my entire family. He will be missed. Sending love to Carrie and the entire family! 

I had the privilege of working with Rex at Independence Elementary.  Rex had a gentle spirit and ready smile at all times.  He was so even keeled and unflappable, even amidst the flurry of school life.  Staff and students alike appreciated him.  Rex was one of those rare individuals who truly connected and took the time to support  others in their journey.   Carrie,  my thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.  Such a loss!

Mr. walls was not my fifth grade teacher, but he was someone I would spend my fifth grade lunches with in his classroom. He would always be there if I needed someone to talk to since elementary school so hard for me. Mr. walls always took everybody in as his family and/or friend.  He will forever be missed. There’s no doubt that Heaven has gained an angel.

I was blessed to not only call Rex my coworker but my friend. I worked with him at Independence Elementary school. He was the most amazing man! He was always more than willing to share his pot of coffee, was a great listener. gave great advice and a comforting hug, told silly jokes and had the most contagious laugh and smile! He loved his students, his country and his family more than words can express. Carrie and family my thoughts and prayers are with you all. 

Mr. Walls was my 5th grade teacher and while I might not remember the exact lesson plans, I credit him with teaching me how to be a kind, compassionate person. He taught me how to listen, and lead with grace, and how to always keep good spirits, no matter the struggle. I remember him assigning me the seat next to his desk, not because I was a distraction in class, but because he wanted to be able to have conversations with me while the rest of the class worked. He wanted to help me mature and grow and I cannot thank him enough for helping me become the successful leader I am today. You’ll be missed dearly, thank you Mr Walls.

My Sympathy to Mr. Wall’s family.  I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Walls at Independence Elementary School for 3 years.  He always had a coffee pot sized cup of coffee that he would drink throughout the day.  I would always laugh with him about just getting an IV drip of coffee since it would be easier.  Fueled with his Java, he put on a smile on his face every day and greeted his students with a smile and hug.  He was such a gentle soul and the students really loved him.  He will be truly missed.  I am very honored to have worked with him and shared some incredible students with him.  Every student always knew he cared for them!  He was a gift to many students and staff throughout the years.  May his memory be eternal through the students he helped educate and raise.

When I joined the staff at Independence Elementary in 2006, I had already raised my two daughters.  Wow, the students were a lot different than they were during my previous classroom teaching experience in the 1980's! It was a huge adjustment for me.  Rex took me under his wing and, just like he did with his students, he gave me encouragement and support.  When some fifth grade boys went out of their way to try to embarrass me with a prank, Rex helped me to deal with the situation and he took it all in stride.  His heart was laser-focused on the needs of others.  He was always ready with a smile, a joke, words of affirmation and encouragement, and a willingness to help in any way he could.   HIs Christian faith was evident in how he lived; a testimony through actions, not just words.  I literally broke out crying when I heard that he had passed, because the world has lost a wonderful soul whose purpose was always to serve his Lord and be a reflection of grace and kindness to everyone around him.  I am thankful to have worked with him for several years.  My prayers and love are sent to his family and to the many whose lives were changed for the better through knowing Rex Walls.  My sadness is comforted only in the knowledge that Rex is now with his Lord.  God bless you, Rex Walls!  

Mr. Walls was my teacher for kindergarten and 5th grade. I loved his class so much. While he was stern with us, he cared so deeply for all of his students. I wish I could have gone to see him before he passed. You helped make me the woman I am today through your teaching and nurturing so long ago. You will be greatly missed.

Rex was like a father to me, ever since I arrived at Independence Elementary in 2000. He was an amazing teacher, mentor, father, and human being, who cared for every one of his students (and even the students he didn't teach directly). I will never forget how Rex always had a fresh pot of coffee brewing in his room, for having a wonderful sense of humor (we played many practical jokes on his unsuspecting students), how he was always the first one in the building, how he always had a favorite parking spot at school (which he passed on to me), and how the younger kids would stop by his room to say "Hi, Grandpa!" as they walked out to recess. Rex will be missed but never forgotten. Prayers go out to Carrie and family. Rest in Peace, Mr. Walls.

Mr Walls was a wonderful, compassionate and  thoughtful man, teacher and leader.  He always had a hug & cup of coffee to share with the adults And a hug & supportive words for the kiddos at Indy. He left a lasting impression on all who were blessed to know him. 

Mr. Walls was a kind, caring teacher and individual. He taught three of my children, and I was thankful that my kids were in his care. He always had a kind word for the kids... they came first. 

Rex cared deeply for humanity. He never forgot a face. If someone was in need he gave freely of himself.
