Orlando “O” Montoya was born July 21, 1947 in Denver, CO, he died peacefully on April 10, 2022.
He is joining his mother Rose Montoya, sisters Ida Diaz, Linda Gonzales-Addad, Esther Montoya De Gomez, son Orlando “Lonnie” Montoya.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Maria Montoya, his son Derek (Fern) Montoya, daughter-in-law Gail Montoya, grandsons Joseph Martinez, Trumane Montoya, granddaughters Cherelle Montoya, Anissa Montoya and great-grandsons Niccolo and Marchello Martinez, his brother Joseph “Bobbie” Montoya and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He graduated from Manuel High School and went to work for Rocky Flats at a young age. He served two 4-year apprenticeships earning a Journeyman Electrician license from IBEW Local Union 68 and Rocky Flats. He retired from Rocky Flats after 30 plus years.
He was a life- long Bronco fan and a proud season ticket holder since the 60’s. One of “O’s” greatest joys was going to, and watching the Denver Broncos with his best friend Juan, sons and grandsons. One could say that next to watching the Broncos, coaching baseball, football and his favorite sport basketball was a true passion that consumed a major part of his life. He started coaching in the early 70’s when his boys were young and continued for the next 40 years. He served as president of the Thornton Basketball Little League, he coached the Centaurus High School freshman for 11 years, he also coached for the Erie Youth Basketball Recreation League for 10 years, and would have continued had his health permitted.
Orlando played a positive role in hundreds, if not thousands of young lives in the communities he lived in.
He will be missed not being seen walking around the cul-de-sac.
All services will be held at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary 7777 W. 29th Ave. Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 in the Pavilion.
