Norma was born and raised in Hurley, South Dakota, upon graduation of high school in 1953 she began Nurses training at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton SD, Immediately after receiving her RN Norma was one of the first Red Cross Nurses who volunteered for the 1956 polio epidemic in Cook County Hospital Chicago, After moving to Colorado she met her husband Wilfred in 1959 and was married November 26th 1960. They adopted 2 infant children, Kathryn Sue in 1967 and David John in 1969, They ultimately settled in Arvada Colorado in early 1969 where they resided the rest of their lives.
Norma spent the vast majority of her Nursing career at Rose Medical Center in Denver, shortly after Wilfred's passing in 1996 she retired to focus on church and volunteer opportunities. She was a 50+ year member of Peace Lutheran Church in Arvada, a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and a longtime volunteer with the Orphan Grain Train- a Christian organization that ships donated food, clothing, medical and other needed items to people in 69 different countries.
Norma is survived by three brothers; Harold, Warren and Roland who still reside in the Hurley and Sioux Falls area of South Dakota and one sister; Doris who resides in Bloomington, Minnesota. She is also survived by her longtime companion John Carlson of Arvada.
Her son David resides in Littleton CO, daughter Kathryn resides in Arlington TX. Norma has 2 grandchildren- Aaron in Texas and Hunter in Colorado.
Norma's hobbies included gardening, quilting, embroidery and other needlework, she enjoyed traveling, Jigsaw puzzles and she absolutely loved to play scrabble.
Norma was a wonderful person who never ceased helping others, and was always there for her children and grandchildren, the world was brighter with her and a bit darker without.
