Nina Mae Stewart

Nina was born May 19, 1939 in Ft Collins, Colorado. Her family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1942 because her father Kenneth Larm started a new job at Remington Arms as a machinist. In addition to her dad being a machinist, he and her mother Pearl bought houses, fixed them up, and sold them. Nina moved a lot as a child. She lived in Denver then Lakewood, Colorado.

Nina met the love of her life LeRoy as a child in elementary school then later as a young adult through a friend. They were married on July 20, 1958 at Mountair Christian Church where they had both grown up in the congregation and were baptized.

Nina and LeRoy had 2 children: their son Mikel, born in 1959, and daughter Donna, born in 1967. Nina was a dedicated and loving mother who was always there for her children and husband. The family moved to Arvada, Colorado in 1970. In the midst of raising her children, LeRoy suffered an accident and she stayed by his side every step of the way.

Nina and LeRoy loved their grandchildren: Jeremy, Andrew, Spencer, Kristofer, and Serena.

Later on, LeRoy was diagnosed with ALS. Nina continued to care for him at home until he passed in 2001. Unfortunately, ALS also claimed the life of Nina’s son Mike in 2016. She was devastated by both losses, but after they were gone she still kept fighting on behalf of others with ALS.

Later in life, Nina began having medical issues of her own, but she never complained and took on every challenge with a smile. She was a remarkably resilient woman who fought right up until the final moments of her life. She died in her home surrounded by her loving daughter and family.

Even in the short week since she passed, it is clear that her legacy will last forever. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and extended family have enjoyed looking through her books of family history and learning more about the incredible woman she was. Her beautiful, loving personality will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter Donna (Kip), grandchildren Jeremy (Amy), Andrew (Jessica), Spencer (Renee), Kristofer (Casey), and Serena, and great grandchildren Ryker, Tesla, Chloe (Logan), Oliver, Nadine, Scarlett, Dawson, Miles, Grayson, Maxwell, and Raylee.

She is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Pearl, husband LeRoy and son Mikel.
