So sorry to learn of Mike's passing.  We served together as Platoon Commanders in Delta Company, 1st Battalion 5th Marine Regiment in Vietnam back in 1970.  Mike took over 3rd Platoon when he joined the Company.  He was an excellent officer, admired and respected by the officers her served with and, more importantly, by the Marines he led.  I regret that Mike and I did not have contact with each other since leaving Vietnam nearly 42 years ago.  He was a man of conscience who had a fierce loyalty to his Country, his Corps and his comrades, and who could be depended on when the going got tough, which it often did.  I extend my sympathy and condolences to the family of Mike Russel, a good man and a great Marine.

I was fortunate to have served with LT Russell in D Co 1st Bn 5th Marines in Vietnam. I am so sorry to hear of our Brothers passing. He was outstanding officer, warrior and Leader of Marines. Our prays go out to his family.

Mike was a Marine's Marine and I had the pleasure and privilege to serve with him in Vietnam and live with him for a few months in North Carolina.....I regret not staying in touch with him and offer my heartfelt condolences to his beautiful family....Joe Henry (mike has his arm around me in the photo)

i remember mike from 5o years ago when he went to grace brethern church at expos and federal he  and my daughter judy binegar .were in the same class. we will miss him,

Lani and Mike's family, I was shocked to hear of Mike's passing. The Russell family was very good to me as a child. I remember spending a week with them when my mom went on vacation. We had a great group of friends all through school and Mike was right in the middle of everything. My condolences to all of you.

Lani and Russell Family:  The 5 of us were inseperable as kids: Russell, Rebich, Frazzini, McQuaid, and Gallegos.  We played Football, Basketball and Baseball together from the 5th Grade through High School.  Enid drove us to every game through 9th Grade.  Mike was the humor.  The funniest person I've ever known. Sorry to hear about Mike passing. I played football with Mike for 2 years at Fort Lewis College. We both played guard. I haven't seen him since I graduated in 1967. I remember him as a really nice guy.

Beverly & family, Susan and I went to Fort Lewis with Mike and I played football with him. Mike was a very good football player and leader on our team. He was confident and sure of himself and always there for advise and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I did not know Mike personally, but I remember Beverly when she worked for the Sheriff's Office and I know Kelly also from the Sheriff's Office. 
My sincerest condolences.

We are so sorry to receive the news of Mike's passing. I had the good fortune and honor to work with Mike at Lakewood and the D.A.'s Office and we shared many great times on and off the job. Bev, Andy, Lani and family,  I went to Fort Lewis with Mike and I have many fond memories of our life at Fort Lewis.  Our paths only crossed for brief times after college--the last was when he and Bev enrolled Andy in Fort Lewis.  We had a great time reliving old memories.  I was looking forward to again being able to catch up on his life this summer when we have a gathering of those of us who went to the Fort in the 60's---life is so short, we need to grasp the joys while we can.  I trust your fond memories will help to make this difficult time a little more bearable.


We remember Mike from Ft. Lewis where he played football with Ken.  Mike was one of the nicest people on campus.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
