She and Tom were married on June 4, 1957, and lived in Madison Heights, Michigan and eventually Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Most weekends in Michigan were spent traveling to Canada (an hour away) and enjoying her parent’s beach cottage on Lake St Claire with family and friends.
Eventually the family moved to Colorado in 1973 as they had spent many previous vacations skiing out west and really loved the climate and sunshine. While Mary was sad to leave all of her family behind in Michigan (lots of tears with Kathy, Kelly, and Sue on the final road trip west) she eventually grew to love Colorado.
Most weekends in Colorado were spent skiing and/or golfing and staying at their condo in Dillon, CO. The whole family were big skiers and golfers and wanted to enjoy that lifestyle all year long and not just on family vacations. Plus, Michigan skiing lacked a lot of prime elements (like powder snow, long runs, ski lifts vs rope tows.)
For many years, Mary, and a neighbor friend, owned a Framing and Print Shop that sold numbered prints from very accomplished artists. She also loved gardening and growing fresh vegetables. Mary was very health conscious and was an avid walker that kept her physically fit. She was still walking two miles a day up to her last few months on earth.
Mary continued to play golf in many women’s leagues up until her 70’s but quit skiing in her 50’s. After her divorce from Tom, she proved her independence by traveling and enjoyed visiting several different countries such as Ireland, Australia, China, Italy, and Europe.
Mary is survived by her three children, Kathy Hagan, Kelly Hagan (Dean Steppler) and Sue Heistermann (Mark), her five granddaughters, Katie Tabatabai (Pasha), Emily Rundles, Sarah Hagan, Ali and Laney Steppler, and one great grandchild, Zell Tabatabai, her brothers Bill and Mike Maloney (Marie) and many nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, June 30 at St Frances Cabrini Parish at 6673 W. Chatfield Ave, Littleton 80128
A luncheon will follow at Olinger’s immediately following the Mass at 7777 W. 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, 80033
