Madeline Anna Berry (née Burchill) was born in Mount Vernon, New York on July 30, 1923, and passed away on May 1, 2019. Madeline was the only daughter and the youngest child of George Jerome Burchill and Anna (née Plattner) Burchill. Some of Madeline’s relatives were well known and accomplished in their respective fields. Her aunt, Mary Ellen Burchill wrote novels under the pseudonym ‘Christine Faber’
Another aunt, Katherine (‘Aunt Kittie’) Burchill wrote short stories and poems which were published in some magazines. Her great-uncle, George Davis (brother of Henry Davis) was President of Hunter College, in New York City.One of her distant cousins, Vernon Davis, was a justice of the New York State Supreme Court.
Madeline worked on Wall Street as an executive secretary at one of the large firms before she married Eugene Richard Berry, Sr. on November 26, 1949, at the Sacred Heart Church in Mount Vernon, New York. They were blessed with six children. Madeline is survived by her husband, Gene of 69 years as well as their six children: Gerard, Grace, Clare, Eugene, Jr., George (Rosemary) and Joseph, four granddaughters: Christine, Bonnie, Brigid and Caitlin and three great grandchildren: Michael, Benjamin and Isabel Leonardo. Madeline was predeceased by her parents, George Jerome Burchill and Anna Burchill as well as by her brothers, Joseph and George, Jr. and her grandson Gerard F. Berry Jr.
