Lloyd Carlton, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully in Littleton, Colorado, on October 5, 2024. Alongside faith and family, Lloyd’s life was centered around people. Dr. Carlton was known far and wide as “DC;” he never forgot a name or a connection, and he rarely met a person he couldn’t link to another friend or acquaintance.
Lloyd was born in Houston, Texas, on November 26, 1938, to William Lewis and Freddie Mae Carlton. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Sam Houston State University, a Master’s in Administration from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Doctorate of Education from the University of Wyoming. He had a long career in Jefferson County Public Schools, where he taught, served as principal, and supported as a consultant. Lloyd made his mark in numerous schools: Foster, Lumberg, Vanderhoof, Devinny, Bear Creek, Kendrick Lakes, and Green Mountain Elementary Schools; Ken Caryl Junior High, Dennison Fundamental (K-9), D’Evelyn Jr/Sr High, and Lincoln Academy. He also supported programs as a consultant to a number of charter and option schools before finally retiring from school life.
Outside of education, Lloyd served his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the Naval Reserve for 22 years. Much of his time was spent at NORAD in Colorado Springs, where he served as a Security Officer as well as working in Counterdrug Tactical Intelligence.
Lloyd is survived by Patricia, his wife of 58 years, daughter Shawna (John) Hettich, sons Torrey (Kristin) and Tabor (Lee), grandchildren Travis, Alyson (Mark), Tyler (Logan), Emily (Jeremy), Cody, Aidan, Kim, Thang, Austin, Seth, Fletcher, Mylo and Jace. He briefly enjoyed his three great grandchildren- Sophie, Tucker and Braxton. Lloyd is also survived by a brother, Dennis, and sister, Martha.
A Celebration of Life service for Lloyd will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Southwest Community Church: 4001 S Wadsworth Blvd, Littleton, CO 80123. All are welcome.
A private committal service will occur Monday, November 25, 2024, at Fort Logan National Cemetery- Lloyd’s final resting place.
