Karen Kae Sanders was born on September 21st, 1958 to Jack and Darlene Spence in Logan, Utah. Kari was the youngest of three siblings and she was preceded by her brother John Spence and sister Susan Hinde. Kari was a very smart, inquisitive and extraordinary person who overcame many obstacles, including blindness in one eye at the very young age of 5. She grew up in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1976. Kari started college at Utah State University in 1976 and later graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelors of arts degree in Journalism. She met and married her first husband, in Utah and had first son, Chris Pearson, in 1984 before later moving to Denver, Colorado where she had her second son, Nicholas Pearson, in 1988. In 1990, Kari met her second husband, Gil Sanders, and they married in 1991. She had her third child, Hanna Sanders, in 1992. Kari lived happily in Arvada, Colorado with Gil, Hanna, Chris, and Nick through the remainder of her life.
Kari was known best for her selflessness and her desire to always put the needs of others before her own. Her compassion and constant smile was contagious and she could light up any room with her quirky humor and talkative persona. She had many passions in life, which included playing the viola in college, teaching aerobics in her 20’s and 30’s, and caring for her many animals including her daughter’s two horses and three dogs. Most importantly, her greatest passion was spending time with her three children and her three grandchildren. She cherished being Hanna’s number one cheerleader when it came to Hanna’s pursuit of equestrian greatness. She loved going to the zoo and museum with Chris and Savanna and their three children Hunter, Forest, and Gunnar. Kari’s affinity to have a party was most apparent with the countless barbeques she would host with her son Nick throughout the summers. Kari also loved to travel to the Caribbean and was always planning the next exciting endeavor with her beloved husband, Gil.
Kari loved to see people smile and would go above and beyond to make them welcomed and comfortable regardless of the setting. Through all of her experiences you never would hear Kari complain. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
