

Jose Tiburcio Gomez, of Lakewood, CO passed away peacefully on October 3, 2023, at 90 years of age. He was born on February 9, 1933, to Margarita Montoya and Tiburcio Gomez in Rocky Ford, Colorado. The family established roots in the community, focusing on agriculture. Jose attended Rocky Ford High School, where he became an avid wrestler. After graduating from High School, Jose joined the Air Force and he was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. He later met his wife, Paula, while stationed in Toledo, Ohio. Jose and Paula were married on December 30, 1959. They had 2 sons in Ohio, then returned to Colorado where they had 3 daughters and another son. The loving family of 8 spent a few years in Pueblo, CO but finally settled in Lakewood, CO. They raised their family in Lakewood, remaining in the same home for 49 years. Jose was a dedicated mail carrier for over 30 years. He relished moments spent outdoors—fishing, hunting, and enjoying the serenity of nature. He would often take his family on road trips, camping, and local events. He was always understanding and patient, even with 6 children. He was a humble but loving man. Jose was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather. His family was the core of his universe and a testament to his unconditional love and support. He taught us to be honest, courageous, hard-working, and loving. Dad was also a faithful servant of God, he embodied the virtues of faith, compassion, and love in every aspect of his life. He instilled his strong faith in his family. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Tiburcio and Margarita, his brother-in-law Henry Padilla, and later his brother Alfred Gomez. He is survived by his wife Paula, his children: Joe and wife Debra, Tony and wife Patti, Gloria, Carla and husband Jay, Victor and late wife Laura, and Vicky and husband Todd and his grandchildren Joseph, Macy, Madison, Gabriel, Ava, Grace and Luke. Services will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Parish on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11:00 am. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jose’s name to the Parkinson’s Foundation Rocky Mountain Chapter or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
