John Kevin Sneden, 65, of Commerce City, Colorado, passed away on the evening of August 29th, 2022. He was born on December 27th, 1956, in Topeka, Kansas, the middle child of Donald Wesley and Virginia Lee Sneden. He spent his early years living in Lawrence, Kansas with his parents and 4 siblings: Lynda, Don, Mark, and Lee Ellen. The family moved around several times until finally settling in Littleton, Colorado in 1970. He was a member of the first graduating class of Columbine High School in 1975 and enrolled in classes at the University of Northern Colorado, where he would meet his wife Carrie. They were married on October 28th, 1989, and had four children: Kyle, Abigail, Emma, and Margaret.
John was a vociferous reader, particularly of historical nonfiction. He loved to golf, and was a devoted fan of the Kansas Jayhawk basketball team. He enjoyed listening to music of all types, with a particular fondness for The Grateful Dead and classical trumpet and bassoon music. His greatest love, however, had to be spending time with his family, and he remained immensely proud of his children all through his life.
John made his living working in the restaurant business, starting with a job his older brother Don got him making pizzas at Pizza Hut. He worked over the years for many different restaurants, including Souper Salad, Jack-in-the-Box, Taco Bell, and most recently as the District Manager of Fazoli's in Colorado. Everyone who knew and worked with John described him as positive, funny, charming, always ready to laugh, and talkative.
John is survived by his wife, Carrie, of 32 years, all four of his children, and his two dogs Ned and Pepper; his younger siblings Mark (and wife Chris) Sneden of Centennial, Colorado, and Lee (and husband Kip) Murphy of Harbor Springs, Michigan, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Virginia, and his two older siblings, Lynda and Don.
A Celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, September 10th at 10:00am at Ascension Lutheran Church of Littleton - 1701 W Caley Ave, Littleton, CO 80120.
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
