Jim Burnik, 68, of 13396 W. 60th Place, Arvada, CO died Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Lutheran Medical Center. Jim was born in Joliet, Illinois, to Stephen and Nora Burnik. He grew up in El Paso, Texas and moved to Colorado in his early twenties. After an early career as a commercial Master Electrician, Jim retired from his second career as a successful Financial Planner with Waddell & Reed. Jim was an active member of Church of the Beloved Ecumenical Catholic Community where he championed Social Justice issues, was a Reader and studied to become a Deacon.
Jim loved baseball and was one of the first to buy season tickets to the Colorado Rockies. He enjoyed taking all his children and grandchildren to the games as well as friends and business associates.
For 33 years Jim was a wonderful husband, companion and friend to his wife, Anne. After working together for many years along with their daughter, Kim, Jim and Anne enjoyed extensive traveling, playing cards with their friends, hiking in the mountains, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Jim was always looking out for his son, Steve, and his daughters, LeElla and Kim. He admired his son-in-law, Gary, who often helped him with household projects. He appreciated his son-in-law, Brian, who helped so much with his lawn. His grandchildren, Arianna, Johnna, Rhiannon, Maya, Willow, Jake and Josh brought him much joy and happiness. He was proud of his great grandson, Neizain.
Jim was a good cook. He often fixed Mexican food and his own special recipes for family and friends. He also enjoyed “going up the hill” and playing video poker at various casinos where he often won.
Jim was a happy, generous man who was an inspiration to his family and friends. He loved deeply and we will carry him in our hearts forever.
Visitation and a Vigil Service will be held 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 12th at Church of the Beloved, 10500 Grant Dr. Northglenn, CO. Mass of the Resurrection, 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13th at Church of the Beloved followed by a Committal Service at Crown Hill Cemetery 7777 West 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO.
