James (Jim) Batt was born in Colorado to Alex and Lydia Batt on July 20, 1933. He grew up near the Denver area with his brother, Jerry and his sister, Meredith. He was the oldest of the three. After graduating from High School, Jim went on to work with his dad and brother for their company: Batt Brothers Excavating. They worked on many projects together, which included building some of the roads up to Coal Creek Canyon and assisting with the construction of Jeffco Stadium.
Jim and Claudine met at Emmaus Lutheran Church during a youth group gathering. They enjoyed many activities together and shared a lot of fun memories with people that ended up being lifelong friends. They married on October 16, 1955, and the rest is history. They celebrated their 69th anniversary in 2024.
From November 19, 1954-March 16, 1956 – Jim served with the United States Army before going on to enroll in college. He attended Denver University (DU) where he took his experience with construction to the next level and received his degree in Civil Engineering. Jim began his career as an Engineer with the City of Aurora and then went to work with the Denver Water Department, where he would continue to work with the company for 27 years.
As time went on, Jim and Claudine had four children. Family was always Jim’s number one priority, and he was incredibly supportive of his children. Jim, Claudine, and their family were dedicated members of Peace Lutheran Church. Jim enjoyed serving frequently as a volunteer in various roles. For many years he was also a devoted volunteer with Roadrunners for Christ as part of Orphan Grain Train.
Throughout their lives, he and Claudine continued to be involved in their church and community. They loved to travel, attend Broncos and Rockies games, and spend time with family and friends at their favorite local pizza spot - Arvada Villa. Jim was an avid reader and continued to build and create even after he retired. To relax, he would spend hours carving walking sticks and a variety of wooden sculptures. Miniature boots and Santa carvings were his specialty.
Known by his family and friends for his deep dedication, his quiet kindness, and his mischievous sense of humor – Jim will be dearly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife Claudine and his four children: Deborah Burton, Ronald Batt, Daniel Batt, and Cheryl Hill; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
