Helen Margaret King was born in Ziegler, Illinois to Frances (Bosgal) and Walter Lichtenfeld on March 5, 1925. Helen had three siblings, Mary Veto, Harry Lichtenfeld and John (Bud) Clarence Lichtenfeld. Helen attended school in Centralia, Illinois, Montrose, Colorado and Portland, Oregon.
During World War 2 she worked at the Kaiser Shipyard and the Portland Base Hospital. Later she worked for the U.S. Geological Survey Library in Denver Colorado from 1960 to 1993.
Helen loved working on her family genealogy and loved history. She was a member of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia.
Helen was a breast cancer survivor. She volunteered for CanSurmount and received the Paul Hamilton award for her work with cancer patients.
Helen married Reginald King on March 5, 1946. She was widowed in 1979, She is survived by two of her three children, Kathleen (Dennis) Gilmore and David (Pam) King and daughter in law Jodie King, wife of John King, deceased on January 16, 2024. She was the grandmother of seven grandchildren. Michael Gilmore, Patrick (Roxanne) Gilmore; Demetrius (Tammy) Romo Gilmore; Angela (Jeff) Hockett; and Sean (Tracy) King. Two of her grandchildren, Troy King and Heather King preceded her in death. She has nine great grandchildren: Andrew, Kelsey, Katelynn, Kasey, Jenessa, Kirah, Abraham, Alice and Helena. She is also the great, great grandmother of Pierce.
Helen is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family requests in lieu of flowers to donate to the Denver Rescue Mission or to a personal charity of choice in Helen’s name.
