Frank Sherman Allison passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the age of 93. He was born May 14, 1927 in Marion, Indiana and moved to Denver, Colorado with his parents and four siblings when he was three months old. Frank graduated from North High School in 1945 and went on to serve in the Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was stationed in the Philippines as Seaman First Class. Upon discharge he attended the University of Denver. Frank graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering in 1952.
Frank started his career working for the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) at the Denver Federal Center until his retirement in 1988. Traveling on a business trip to New York City, he met Margaret Anne (Peggy) O’Neill on a blind date and the rest is history! They married on June 4, 1955 and came back to Denver, Colorado. Frank and Peggy eventually settled in Lakewood, Colorado where together they raised four children. Frank was immensely proud that he was able to provide all his children with a college education.
In 1964, Frank got his Small Craft pilot license and enjoyed flying over the Rocky Mountains. With his kids on board, he did flyovers of the house, dipping the wings to wave hello to his family standing in the front yard.
An avid hunter, outdoorsman, and backpacker, Frank loved everything about the Colorado mountains. His passion was fishing. Whether it was at a high mountain lake or sitting on a frozen reservoir, it didn’t matter, as long as the fish were biting. One of his favorite destinations were the Mad Creek Lakes located in the Mt. Zirkel Wilderness and later at the family condo at Stagecoach Reservoir. He shared his great love of the outdoors with Peggy and his children. Family summer vacations were usually spent in Marble, Colorado. Frank enjoyed taking the family fishing, horseback riding, and four wheeling into Lead King Basin and up to the Quarry.
Frank was a loving and generous husband, dad, granddad and great granddad. Seeing pictures of his great grandson Barrett always brought a huge smile to his face. He was a very quiet yet caring and thoughtful man. He enjoyed talking to everyone he met, sharing stories of all his adventures. Everyone who met him loved him. He will be dearly missed.
Frank was preceded in death by Peggy (2012). He is survived by his children; Maureen Allison, Laura Allison, Brian Allison (Kathy) and Marc Allison. Grand Children; Tessa McGuire (Beau), Eirik Gay (Clair), Megan Lemcke, Alicia Allison, and Ben Allison. Great Grandson; Barrett McGuire.
