However, not all of the children were fortunate enough to grow up. There were 10 girls and 1 boy that survived. School was a luxury that they didn’t get to experience much of. Eva’s top schooling was the 3rd grade. She was a hard worker and learned at a young age to pick cotton. That was how her family made their money. She did this job until she was married in 1951.
Eva married Rodrigo G Delgado (aka Roger or Roy) on September 16, 1951 on Mexican Independence Day.
She was a very clean person and kept her home that way as well. One of the things she said was “you can be poor, but you don’t have to be dirty”. Making a home and having her children was a big part of her life. Cooking all her meals from scratch was a daily event.
Later, she worked outside of the home. Some of her jobs included Russel Stover’s, and the one everyone remembered her by was Jolly Ranchers. Eva retired from the company after 25 years of service.
After that, Eva and Rodrigo helped with their grandchildren by taking them to school and to appointments. She lived to help her family. She made the grandkids anything they wanted for breakfast every morning before school. She would ask them the night before, “tell me what you want for breakfast so I can have it ready for you when you wake up.”
Eva loved the Lord with her whole heart. She was a prayer warrior, and utilized her time here on this earth to cultivate her family. She would sing songs to all of her grandchildren. “Jesus loves the little children” and “this little light of mine” among others. Reading her Bible was a daily ritual. She modeled the way we are to live in this world every day, as a Christian by her actions and her deeds. She was generally a happy person, and would laugh at just about anything. Part of her kindness was to help others whenever she could. It was in her nature to love the way Jesus loved, and the way we are instructed to in his absence.
Eva is survived by her daughter Eva Darlene, her grandchildren Roger Lee, Katie Dalerie, Markie Dee, and John Kyle Jr. Great grandchildren Brianna Paige, Angel Analiah, Jazmine Estrella, Selena Mariana, Mythias Joseph, Elias Angel, Marciano Ray. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Father, sisters and brothers, as well as her husband Rodrigo, her sons Roger and Willy Ray, and her granddaughter Angel Mandi Delgado.
