Erich Ludvig Hass was born in what he called a “cow town” in southern Brazil, named Riqueza, in the state of Santa Catarina on May 18, 1940 to Friedrich and Martha (Kuhn) Hass. He was the 2nd youngest of 7 children. After apprenticing to be a tailor, Erich came to the United States in 1963 to live the American Dream. Erich’s Uncle Bertold and Aunt Bertha (Hass) were sponsors for him and he later became an American Citizen. After writing his sweetheart in Brazil for a year and a half, Erich married his life-long partner, Nadir (Massirer) on November 28, 1970. Nadir joined Erich in the United States in April of 1971. Erich and Nadir had two children: Marcus and Sheila. Erich owned and operated the longest-running tailor shop in the Denver-metro area from 1977-2019. When Erich wasn’t working, he could be found working on his house or many times, helping family with theirs. He was a jack of all trades, from plumbing to drywall to electric, there were few things he couldn’t fix.
Erich was a Christ-follower. He was an active member of First German Congregational Church (now Fellowship Covenant Church) for over 40 years. Erich was intelligent and witty. He had a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh.
More than just a dad, Erich was a grandfather, or as his grandchildren called him, “Opa”. Opa loved spending time with his grandkids! From their infant dedications, to their high school graduations, Opa was there for all of them! There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them.
Erich is preceded in death by his parents, Friedrich and Martha Hass, and twin siblings Oskar Hass and Wally Marks. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nadir (Massirer) Hass of Greeley, son Marcus Hass (Deanna Long) of Highlands Ranch, daughter Sheila Shirley (Kenneth Shirley) of Loveland, grandchildren Joshua and Kayleigh Feller, and Mason and Kendall Hass, step granddaughters Courtney Shirley (Dillon Knighton) and great-grandson, Denver, and Kelsey Shirley and great-grandson, James, all of Midland, Texas, and siblings Arthur, Lina, and Sigmund of Brazil, and sister Rosalia of Switzerland.
Memorial/Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Fellowship Covenant Church, 5615 West 64th Avenue, Arvada, CO, 80003 at 1:00PM. Refreshments and a time of fellowship immediately to follow (at the same location) in the gymnasium. A main dish will be provided. We would appreciate it if you would bring a side dish to share.
