1920-2017
Elmer Thiel was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado on April 6, 1920. He died on January 17, 2017 in Sedalia, Colorado. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Holland, son-in-law Edson P., daughter-in-law, Linda Thiel, and son, Daniel Thomas. He was predeceased by his son Michael. He is survived by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Thelma Merriman. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry Thiel and Elizabeth Vaughn, and his brothers, John and Everett.
Elmer was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps and flew 35 missions over Japan as a bombardier. He was honorably discharged from the military as a Captain. He was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross.
Upon returning from the war Elmer had a long career as general manager of Sachs Furniture in Lakewood. He retired in 1983. He had many life-long friends whom he loved dearly. He enjoyed Jack Daniels, cigars, golf, and bowling. He was a superb gardener, maintaining flower gardens for four homes.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 25, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with services on Thursday, January 26, at 10:00 a.m., both at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
