Edward Waring was born on August 23, 1918 in Columbus Ohio to Federick and Katherine Waring. He was the oldest sibling of sister, Janet Waring, and brother, Jerry Waring. He attended Ohio State University and graduated in 1940 with a Civil Engineering degree. Pursing his love for the railroad, Ed was hired by the New York Central Railroad in Toledo, Ohio where he worked until he joined the Army in July of 1944. While in the Army he discovered his love for the Denver area after teaching at Lawry Air Force Base and moved permanently to Denver after his separation from the Army in June of 1946. Shortly thereafter he was hired by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad where he spent the next 35 years until he retired as Chief Engineer in 1983. Ed met Sue Pickens who also worked for the railroad and were married on May 12, 1951. Ed and Sue had two children; son Tom, and daughter Sandy, four grandchildren; Adam and Jerad Waring and Erika and Danny Nystrom, and two great grandchildren; Samantha and Zachary Waring.
Ed was a devoted member of the Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church as well as the Wheat Ridge Rotary Club for many years. He also had numerous hobbies that he cherished including listening to classical music, collecting stamps and coins and reading books. He was an avid golfer and loved watching baseball and football. He enjoy traveling and was always up for a game of Bridge (or just about any game for that matter). He took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
