We will miss Ed's smile, cheery welcome, and infinite optimism.  When Ed stepped onto the court or entered a room, you'd immediately feel great and know that the rest of your day would be better than ever.  We'll feel this loss for a long time to come.  Out heartfelt condolences to Mary and family.  We hope that the wonderful memories will give you some comfort and please know that we will keep you in our thoughts.

The Kulhanek cousins want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers today and the days to come.  It was by chance that Ed was in Wisconsin attending a reunion when our dad passed away.  We all were happy to see Ed and had an opportunity to chat with him at dad's visitation.   Today, our hearts are with you, Mary, your children, and your grandchildren as well as with Jean, Susan, Pat and their families. We have been Ed’s friends for a very long time.  I knew Ed in high school where we had many good times, especially after Senior Class Play Practice.🙂. After college, we were all busy with careers and raising children, but stayed connected with Christmas letters and high school reunions ( where Tom met Ed).  When we had teenage children we would meet to ski and continued to meet on the beautiful slopes of Colorado, followed by fun, relaxing dinners , catching up with news of family and friends.  Even though years often passed between visits, every time we saw Ed, it felt like just yesterday.  That was the kind of friend Ed was.  We will miss our dear, caring friend.

Ed, our first memory of you and Mary is when we attended our first Fantasy Ball many years ago.  We sat at your table and you made us feel so comfortable and welcome.  In the years after, we got to know you as a trusted and caring person who helped so many children find their forever families through your service and support of The Adoption Exchange.  You were a mentor and trusted adviser to me as Board Chair at The Adoption Exchange.  We are truly saddened that you left us way too early, but your work here on earth was exceptional and benefited all so many.

Ed I am going to miss you.   It was over 19 years ago that you hired me to work for you at Barringer Laboratories and then you recommended me to come to work at American Exteriors where you were also my boss until a couple of years before you retired.    You were the best boss ever and you were my friend.  Your sense of humor made many days at work easier.   I will miss your phone calls and catching up on what was happening in our lives and hearing about Mary and your children and grandchildren all of who you loved dearly.   I can still see you carrying Neil into the office at Barringer wearing your baseball cap which Neil insisted should be turned around on your head. 

You were one of the most active and healthy men I know and you left us way too soon.   When I talked to you on January 18th, I didn’t know that would be our last conversation on this earth.   My sympathy and prayers go out to Mary and your children and grandchildren as they learn to live without you.  


Farewell and Godspeed   ---- Mr. Tennis.  

At least for our older group, there is no better description than Mr. Tennis. Yet, that honor expanded to most every age group in the Club at Rolling Hills. Ed knew everyone, for it is a fact if you saw someone you didn't know, you would go to Ed and he would know. 

Always smiling, upbeat, positive, he was "Steady Eddie." A true friend, to both those close to him, especially family, and those he didn't know. I have tears for his commitment to The Adoption Exchange. I often told him that real Christians were those who put there words in love and action and not just talk.  He did it, and although we had some differences, our love and respect for each other could not have been better. 

We both had a love for persons and caring. He consulted me on some of his situations for caring for others -- that he did often. I told him, Ed, the most powerful thing I learned at Princeton Seminary was that "It didn't matter what you say." "It is just being there, and that is enough to express yours and Jesus' love." I don't think how many times he said, "Larry, thank you for that advice." 

Having played tennis with him on the day before he died, along with a few others that loved him deeply, our tears now flow. Yet, as sad as they are, they are happy tears for the gift of Ed in our lives. Of course, God is our judge, and no one else, but if in my mind if you ever wanted to know a true and loving Christian, it was my friend Ed.  I never had a real brother, but one of the great gifts of life are those who become yours. Ed, my brother in Christ, your life was real and loving, and beyond all mysteries I thank you for your love that will continue to inspire all who knew you.  

Captain and Mr. Tennis  The word of this world is that we will miss you deeply, but in the words of faith,  both in this life and the one beyond,  "Thank You." 

Ed Rand:  Kind friend, thoughtful neighbor and active citizen. Your passing is far too sudden and soon.  We’ll miss your countless community contributions nearly as much as your big heart and warm smile.  Though we rarely won a set, you were the best mixed doubles partner ever!

Heartfelt condolences to Ed’s stalwart life-partner Mary, his beloved children, and his cherished grandchildren on this profoundly sad loss.  May many memories of happy times together comfort you during this time of grief.
