Born to Oren and Eva Wiseman in Manitou Springs, CO, Nov. 9, 1935, Donald Leroy Wiseman, 81 of Lakewood. CO passed away January 18, 2017.
His family moved to Western Kansas when he was in the second grade. He spent most of his life in Goodland, KS and graduated from High School there. After High School he worked construction and did farm work.
In January 1954 he joined the Navy and was a gunner on the USS Intrepid for 4 years.
After he returned to Goodland in 1959 he met and married Sharon Lee Kunz. Don worked in the lumber yards in Goodland and then moved to Denver for one year.
During the next five years Don and Sharon had 4 children, Rhonda Lynn Wiseman (Greeley,CO), Renee Ann Schreiner (Lakewood, CO), Randall Gene Wiseman (Greeley, CO) and Rebecca Gaye Schneider (Greeley, CO).
In 1964 Don moved to Gunnison, CO and spent a couple years there. He worked for the Foster Lumber Company during that time. He then moved to Greeley, CO stayed a year and then was transferred to Holly, CO where he worked as a yard manager. When they closed the yard he was transferred back to Ft. Lupton, CO. He then moved to LaSalle and worked for UBC. Eventually they closed and he went to work for United Lumber. He retired there in 2000. He went back to work part-time at Offen Ace Hardware in 2002 and retired a second time in 2010.
Don’s first grandson, Brandon Valenciano spent many summers with Don and his family during his time in LaSalle. They fished together, caught crawdads on Godfrey Bottom and lots of other fun things. Don was able to see his grandson marry his wife Mandi in 2010. They had blessed him with 3 great-grandchildren—Avery, Audri, Alli.
During this time he was an active member of the LaSalle Volunteer Fire Department. He was known as “the first one to be ready for a fire”. Don received Firefighter of the year.
He was also on the LaSalle Town Board and an active community member.
In 2010 Don moved to Lakewood to be nearer his second grandson, John Schreiner. John lived close so when he would get off the bus after school, he would walk a block and spend many afternoons with his grandpa—playing pool, darts, bochi ball, drinking lemonade and hanging out with the other “grandmas and grandpas” at his grandpa’s home--The Meridian.
Don loved the Fire Department, trains, woodworking and reading.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother, wife, and son-in-law.
